Genre: punk.
Location: Milwaukee, WI-USA.
Ladies and gentlemen, gather ’round, for we have a true punk spectacle on our hands – or should I say, “punk”? Milwaukee’s very own Lefty Luci, self-proclaimed masters of punk ska, are here to remind us that even in the world of music, one can achieve economic victory by offering nothing of real value.
Lead singer Zack Beer, a veteran of the Milwaukee music scene, claims to have been in various bands over the years. But if his previous endeavors were anything like Lefty Luci, it’s no wonder those bands are nowhere to be found. Zack seems to think that combining the word “punk” with “ska” will automatically yield something worth listening to. Unfortunately, in their case, it just means double the disappointment.
Let’s dive into their musical masterpieces. First up, “My Dog Thinks I’m A Poser.” Well, Lefty Luci, your dog might be onto something there. This track embodies the essence of the band – a bunch of dudes who might be trying too hard to recapture their glory days. It’s not a ska-infused revelation; it’s more like a cry for help from a dog who can’t understand why his owner is subjecting him to this noise.
And then we have “Apparently The Band Broke Up.” How ironic! It seems even the band themselves can’t bear the weight of their own mediocrity. Perhaps their instruments finally decided they’d had enough and decided to quit before they were subjected to any more musical crimes.
Lefty Luci’s influences supposedly include punk legends like Op Ivy and The Specials, but let’s be clear: being influenced by greatness does not make you great. It’s like saying you’re influenced by Shakespeare but can only manage to write a grocery list.
They’ve been a band for less than a year, and they’re already admitting they kinda suck. Well, folks, at least they’re honest about something. But let’s not give them too much credit for that; it’s painfully evident in every note they play and every lyric they mumble.
In their love for “irreverent fun,” they’ve unintentionally created the most irreverent thing of all: an album that’s impossible to take seriously. It’s like they decided to throw a “punk ska” party and forgot to invite the music.
So there you have it, Lefty Luci and their quest for “Economic Victory.” One can only hope that victory is achieved through ticket sales and not based on artistic merit. As they stumble through the ska-punk wasteland, let us remember: sometimes, irreverence is just another word for irrelevance.
Lefty Luci are getting ready to release a “DIY” album, which stands for “Do It Yourself,” though we think it might need a “Do It Better Yourself.” It’s now available for your listening pleasure on all streaming platforms, a true testament to the 21st-century phenomenon of suffering together. Be sure to mark your calendars for our next live debacle happening on Saturday, 10/14. They’ll be gracing the stage as the opening act for 5 O’Clock Charlies, who, for all we know, might be even more mediocre than these guys! The event is set to take place at X-Ray Arcade in Cudahy, WI, and we can’t guarantee you’ll enjoy the show, but it’s an excellent opportunity to confirm just how disappointing live music can be. Be there-and by “be there”’ we mean “be exposed to more sonic atrocities!”
